Etropole – My Home Town

Etropole is a town in western Bulgaria, part of Sofia Province. It is located close to the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina) in the valley of  Malak Iskar river, 80 km from Sofia.

Etropole is a town with a long history and a big contribution to Bulgarian literature and education. During the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdom Etropole supplies the country with iron, copper and gold. In 15-17 centuries the city was a center of mining and metalworking. During the Renaissance the city became a very important craft center. The population of the city actively participated in the national liberation movement with Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja Khitov in Legion of Rakovski. Participated in the Russo-Turkish War and later in the Serbo-Bulgarian, Balkan, First and Second World Wars.

The resort site of Semkovo is 17 kilometers away from the huddled at the foot of Rila town of Belitsa. The site is situated among spruce and pine- tree forests. It provides a exclusive panoramic view towards a chain of high alpine peaks on the spruce and fur- tree forests. A unique panoramic picture towards the chain of high Alpine peaks on the watershed of central Rila can be viewed from here.

The regions of Southern Black Sea coast, Bourgas, Varna and Northern Black Sea coast offer excellent conditions for sea tourism and practicing water sports.
The opportunities for winter vacations and winter sports are great in Central Rhodopes, Pirin, Rila, Gabrovo region.

The variety of mountains and routes in our country is big and envy for those who are just beginning to know the Bulgarian mountains thus sometimes difficult to choose the place and the way in which it will pass. Among all the possibilities are the Rila and Pirin mountains. And in turn there is a place that is different from all others and attracts hikers at any time of year. It’s the saddle that separates Pirin and Rila mountains and is known with the name – Predel.

Rafting Adventure – Kresna

Rafting is thrilling, exciting, wet, wild and unbelievably fun.  However, as with all adventure sports, there is inherent risk involved. That risk contributes to the excitement, and is one of the reasons people enjoy rafting so much.

Trip began when we met our trip leaders, they distributed wetsuits then everyone got on the bus which transported us to the “put in” where rafts were awaiting in the river. At the put in, the trip leader gave us a safety talk – a vital 10 to 20 minute discussion about how to be safe on the water.

Then we jumped into the boats!

Tetevenska Ribaritsa – Irenka’s Birthday

The village of Ribaritza, (Lovech district) is located 15km South-East from town of  Teteven, at the foot of the Stara planina mountain. It is situated along the rivers of Ribaritsa and Beli vit. There are a lots of hotels, villas for rent and guest houses in Ribaritsa.

Landmarks: the Nature Reserve – “Tsaritchina”; the preserves “Boatin” and “Kozia stena” (“Goat wall”); protected area “Cherniat rid” (“The Black hill”)
